Express Entry: On July 17, 2024, IRCC issues 6,300 Express Entry invitations under the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) with a cutoff Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 515 (for context: the last CEC-specific draw was on May 31, 2024, when IRCC issued 3,000 invitations and the CRS cutoff was 522)
International Students: British Columbia announces it’s capping international student enrolment at 30% of total enrolment (also available on the BC Government website in a July 15, 2024 entry if you hit the Globe and Mail paywall)
Parent and Grandparent Sponsorship 2024: Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announces updated program delivery instructions for the 2024 intake of the Parent and Grandparent Sponsorship Program (also, reminder: there’s a hard deadline of August 2, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. ET for those with 2024 invitations)
Judicial Review (Pre-Removal Risk Assessment): Federal Court grants judicial review in a Pre-Removal Risk Assessment matter where Applicant’s claimed basis of risk in the Philippines was drug addiction (notable analysis on the following concepts: particular social group; similarly situated persons; drug addiction as disease)
Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot: IRCC announces extension to the period of time that communities can issue recommendations under the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP) until July 31, 2024 (also, reminder: the RNIP expires on August 31, 2024)
International Mobility Program: IRCC announces updates to program delivery instructions with respect to “specialized knowledge” intra-company transfers
